Kenilworth Sporting overcame a two goal deficit to snatch a draw in the local derby against Kenilworth Wardens at Gypsy Lane today.

Sporting, of the Midlands League Division Three, left it until the final 10 minutes to secure the draw, having trailed to Wardens, of the Coventry Alliance Division Two, for over an hour in their friendly fixture today.

Kenilworth Sporting have been left 'very disappointed' after the announcement this week that all non-league football was to be abandoned for the rest of the 2020-21 season, putting an end to the club's title challenge.

Non-league teams were given the chance to vote on whether the leagues should continue. Three-quarters of sides voted to curtail the season, and as such all teams in steps three to six in the non-league pyramid have had their seasons null and voided.

A Kenilworth side first moved to Gypsy Lane in 1962

The return of Kenilworth Sporting for the 2020/21 season has started a revival of non-league football in the town. The hiatus of action at Gypsy Lane however, is the latest in a stop-start history for the club, a history which we have looked back over.

The first club which we would now recognise as 'non-league' in Kenilworth was founded in 1936 as Kenilworth Town FC, with a home pitch on the St John's playing fields. They entered the then Coventry and District League.

Kenilworth Sporting started their Miles For Smiles fundraiser on November 9

Players, fans, and staff at Kenilworth Sporting FC have now reached the midpoint of their Miles For Smiles challenge as they raise money for local children, elderly or vulnerable people who go without gifts at Christmas.

Members of the club have been cycling and running the equivalent distance of the 'End to End' - Lands End to John O'Groats - which will see riders and runners complete 951 miles in total.

League leaders Kenilworth Sporting FC will play their fifth away game of the season this weekend, as they travel west to play Upton Town.

Upton currently sit seventh in the Midlands League Division Three on a respectable tally of ten points. Kenilworth find themselves eight points and six positions ahead of their hosts this weekend, as they top the table having won all of their opening six games.
