Kenilworth Sporting is inviting former players of the club's predecessors to join in a reunion for the team's bank holiday Monday fixture.

The club's committee wants anyone who played for Kenilworth Rangers or Kenilworth Town before 2000 to come down to Gypsy Lane for the club's fifth game of the season, against Boldmere Sports on Monday, August 30.

Whilst the name was changed to Kenilworth Sporting FC by new owner Geoff Harris, he still wants to ensure that the history of the club is not forgotten.

Club secretary Andy Harris said that he has heard many stories in the clubhouse about the former Kenilworth teams, and he wants to bring that community spirit back to the club.

"The idea is to get people who use to play or manage here at Gypsy Lane in the past," he said.

"We often hear people saying 'I use to play there' and thought it would be nice to get them together again and hopefully bring along some memorabilia for people to see.

"There has been a lot of history at the club and even though we have changed the name to Kenilworth Sporting it does not mean we forget the past and people that used the club."

Geoff, of Coventry Plumbing, bought Gypsy Lane back in 2018 and has invested a significant amount of money in renovating the ground since then.

The new owners also want to ensure that there is long term on the pitch success, following the turmoil Kenilworth sides endured during the past 20 years.

After just one season Kenilworth Sporting have already been promoted to the Midland Football League Division Two, and Andy wants former members to see what has been achieved by the new setup.

He added: "From our side it would be nice to show people what we have done here and progressed the club and team into the MFL2 under Martin Ascroft.

"We are trying to rebuild the community support for the club which has been lost due to the ground falling into disrepair in the past."
