Second half goals for Luke Steer and Taylor Blyth were enough to keep all three points at Gypsy Lane as Kenilworth Sporting registered their first win of the season.

After back to back home defeats, Sporting needed a result against travelling Hampton to get their Midland Football League Division Two season off the mark.

Still with four key players missing due to injury Sporting dominated the game from the start, keeping the ball moving and creating chances.

Despite the score remaining at 0-0 after the first half, Sporting manager Martin Ascroft was pleased that the squad was making him "make some tough decisions" when the full team is back together again.

The second half continued in the same vein, with the hosts dominating the play and creating chances.

It was Steer who made the break through after beating his man and firing an unstoppable 25 yard shot into the roof of the net following a fine Kenilworth passing move.

Whilst his side continued to make chances, Ascroft was also pleased with the defensive side of the game as Kenilworth kept their first clean sheet of the season. "Defensively we were solid," he said, "with Tierney, Lyons and Welch looking excellent and repelling all that Hampton threw at us."

Ascroft's three substitutions then paid off as Blyth came off the bench to finish a fine move down the left and produce a great finish to double Sporting's advantage.

Their first three points of the season propel Kenilworth Sporting into 10th place, leaving Hampton sat in 13th with just one point.

Sporting will travel away next weekend for the first time this season as they come up against ninth-placed Lane Head.

Kenilworth Sporting results:

Kenilworth 2-0 Hampton

Kenilworth 2-3 Coton Green

Kenilworth 3-5 Inkberrow
