Kenilworth Wardens hosted Stockton in their debut match in the Leamington Sunday league.

Wardens only had two players over the age of 18 in the starting 11 and were hoping that their enthusiasm and work rate would make up for their lack of experience.

Wardens quickly took the lead when veteran Tom Holmes put a lovely cross to the back post for Toby Wells to tower a header into the far post.

Wells doubled his tally and Wardens' lead 10 minutes later. Experienced James Carro played the ball down the line to Wells, who beat three players before powering home.

Wells became the provider 10 minutes after, feeding Ethan Price who ran through to finish into the top corner.

Despite Wardens being completely dominant in the first half, Stockton started the second 45 the better side and deservedly pulled one back after 50 minutes. A defensive mix up led to a Stockton player firing in from 20 yards, nothing that the impressive Eddie Morris could do to keep it out.

Stockton pulled back a second on the 70 minute mark, following a smart turn and finish by Stockton's forward.

Despite Stockton's pressure and dominance, Wardens held out to get their first three points in men's Sunday football leaving manager Paddy Breslin "delighted".

"We're delighted to come out on top against really strong opposition who, in all honesty," he said, "deserved a point out of the fixture.

"The lessons the young lads learnt today will be invaluable for the rest of the season and, if we can use the first 45 as a benchmark, we should be in for an enjoyable season."
