Here is a round up of the biggest stories from the news in Kenilworth this May.

Alongside a host of planning applications, and a number of high profile council decisions, the last four weeks have seen Nub News cover everything from HS2 and fundraisers to local business successes.

Earlier this week MP for Kenilworth and Southam Jeremy Wright called on the Prime Minister to resign.

Whilst on a more local level residents are now able to apply for their green bin permits.

Development

The outgoing mayor has criticised the building works along the Leamington Road as a major new housing estate begins to take shape.

Kenilworth Town Council has suggested that 'heroes of Kenilworth' be the theme for the road names at the development.

Whilst work has begun on building 620 new houses along Glasshouse Lane.

Campaigners have criticised the running of Abbey Fields Leisure Centre, as the town waits for it to be knocked down and rebuilt.

The council has revealed that the play area could be closed during the summer holidays, but that contracts for the Abbey Fields and Castle Farm redevelopments will be signed soon.

Whilst the saga around the Woodside Hotel came to an end when planning permission for the building to be demolished was refused.

Business news

A family-run cleaning business has revealed excited expansion plans with the purchase of a 3.5 tonne truck using council funding.

The Cottage Inn is still without a tenant, with the landlord now offering three months free rent as it tries to attract new investors.

The Farthing Gallery is about to reopen with a new tea room.

And nine local businesses have all been nominated for awards.

Community News

Two primary schools have retained their good Ofsted ratings. Thorns Community Infant School and Park Hill Junior School were both inspected at the end of March.

We have renewed our plea to find the owners of a set of 1970's photographs that have been traced back to Kenilworth.

The Commonwealth Games baton relay will pass through Kenilworth, with the date announced this month.

A pair of antique owls discovered in Kenilworth have fetched nearly £1,000 at auction when the owners were set to throw them out.
