Kenilworth planning roundup: 620 new homes, 44 flats and 'confusing' pub plans
Here are the biggest Kenilworth planning stories from the past week.
620 New Homes
Work has begun on a new 620-home housing estate in Kenilworth.
Planning approval was given last April, and a new primary school will also be built.
The houses are being built by Vistry Group and Milverton Homes.
-------------
Guest House to Home
A town centre guest house could be turned into a four-bed home if plans are approved.
The Harger Court building was turned into a guest house in 2008, forming part of The Kenilworth hotel.
But now it could be turned back again.
-------------
Charity's House Scheme Refused
A local charity, which dates back to the 15th century, has seen its bid to build four houses on a former scout hut site in Lapworth blocked by planners.
The Lapworth Charity, which maintains a number of almshouses in the village, first submitted plans to build a short terrace of homes on Old Warwick Road in November 2020.
But, with 30 objections being made to the application, plans have been refused due to their impact on the local street scene.
-------------
'Confusing' Queen & Castle Concerns
Kenilworth Town Council has raised concerns over 'confusing' plans to renovate the Queen & Castle.
The pub wants to redecorate inside and out, but the town council said the appearance of the local area needs to be protected.
Cllr Michael Coker added: "The outside is terribly important because it is a major feature of the town right next to our major feature. It is very evident as part of that lovely Castle Green."
-------------
44 Flats in Talisman Square
Plans to build 44 flats on Talisman Square car park have been revealed.
Planning permission to build students accommodation has already been granted.
But new plans would see a four-storey apartment and two shops built.
-------------
Footbridge Plans
Residents are to have their say on plans to turn the Clarke's Avenue, Farmer Ward Road bridge into a joint cycle and walkway.
Kenilworth Town Council and Warwickshire County Council have opened a public consultation.
Residents have until the end of the month to voice their opinions.
