Kenilworth Wardens Sunday side maintained their unbeaten streak in 2021 after taking all three points from a six-goal thriller against Long Itchington.
Wardens got off to a brilliant start when within two minutes Andy legg clipped a long ball forward to Ben Edmunds who expertly clipped the ball home despite being forced wide by the Itchington keeper.
Three minutes later Edmunds made it two with another special goal.
Captain Tom Holmes passed to Edmunds in the box. Edmunds had two players around him but managed to wriggle his way past both, beat a third player and nutmeg a fourth before firing home.
On seven minutes Wardens made it 3-0. A corner from Holmes was volleyed in from close range by James Carro - his fifth goal of the year from centre half.
Long Itchington pulled a goal back on nine minutes. A good through ball was played forward and the referee adjudged that debutant goalkeeper Alex Brown to have fouled the onrushing striker. The Itchington player despatched the resulting penalty cooly to bring the score back to 3-1.
On 20 minutes Wardens scored their fourth of the game. Legg played a brilliant ball to Toby Wells who ran into the box but was slowed down by the Itchington full back. Wells passed to Harry Morris, who chipped the ball into the top corner from the edge of the box.
Having their first team game called off, Itchington made subs midway through the first half, and improved their performance.
They created several chances but Brown in the Wardens goal made a string of excellent saves. Itchington did pull a goal back on 40 minutes after a good counter attack.
The second half was an even affair, with Wardens looking dangerous on the counter attack with Wells and Edmunds. Itchington also created chances but were unable to beat the excellent Alex Brown in goal, leaving Wardens to collect all three points.
Speaking after the game manager Paddy Breslin said: "To go unbeaten in the league in 2021 and be in the semi final of the divisional cup is an absolute superb return and certainly beyond our expectations.
"This is the first year in adults football for the majority of the squad but the kids are learning fast."
