Kenilworth Sporting's manager is urging the local community to get behind his side as they look to end 2021 on a high against Redditch Borough this Monday.

Fifth-placed Sporting will try to close the gap on the promotion places against Redditch at Gypsy Lane in the final Midland Football League Division Two game of the calendar year.

And manager Martin Ascroft is looking for a big home crowd to drive his players on.

"I still think we could get a few more Kenilworth people down to Gypsy Lane for our home games," he said.

"The highest attendance so far has been 268 but that was last season.

"It's a great place to come and watch football, the clubhouse serves breakfasts up till 1pm every Saturday and the entry fee is only £3 for adults.

"We have a very young exciting young side that will impress the neutral football fan out there."

Sporting go into the game undefeated in their last nine league matches - a run stretching back to late September.

Meanwhile ninth-placed Redditch have struggled for consistency so far this season, having only won back to back games once so far this campaign.

But with Kenilworth drawing six of those unbeaten games Ascroft's side now sit 13 points off league leaders Cadbury Athletic.

He added: "We go into our last game of 2021 against Redditch Borough, looking to finish the year on a high.

"Overall we have had reasonable season so far, our league position is probably just about right if I'm honest, the six draws have been frustrating especially the ones where we feel it's two points dropped not a point gained.

"We certainly haven't given up on promotion but we will need to be a little bit more consistent in 2022 to achieve that."

But sitting near the top of the league after a shaky start to the season, and with a semi-final in the Coventry Charity Cup to look forward to, things are looking bright for the Gypsy Lane club.
