The M42 is now fully reopen following a lorry fire yesterday (June 26).

National Highways was forced to resurface the southbound carriageway between junctions 10 and nine following the incident.

Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene yesterday afternoon and remained on the scene to assist in the removal of the load (of cardboard) from the remains of the lorry and damping down before it could be taken away.

"The operation to remove the load of cardboard from the vehicle was a very slow process as the pallets of cardboard would reignite when moved and despite the use of four grab wagons the removal work took until 5am," National Highways said.

"Until the load was removed the remains of the lorry could not begin to be recovered and due to severity of the damage this was a protracted process."
