The town council will officially write to local resident Carol Davidson to thank her for making Kenilworth "so fantastic and even more colourful" with her yarn-bombing across Warwick Road.

Having started crocheting during the first lockdown in 2020, Mrs Davidson's various work has adorned the top of the postbox on Barrow Road and the bollards on Warwick Road for several months.

Her previous 'toppers' have included soldiers for Remembrance Sunday, flowers and even a tribute to the people of Ukraine, but Mrs Davidson pulled out all the stops to decorate the town centre for the jubilee.

The postbox was given a new crown, with guardsmen and flowers adorning the pillars along Warwick Road.

Councillors said it was great for a local resident to do something so 'spontaneous and creative'

Speaking at last week's Kenilworth Town Council meeting, Cllr Andrew Milton said it was right that the council officially thank her for the time and effort she had put into decorating the town.

"One thing I am asking - I am aware that our previous mayor Cllr Peter Jones managed to hone his letter writing skills - is whether the mayor could write to Carol Davidson for her contribution to the celebrations," he said.

"To those of you who don't know Carol, she is the lady who has been doing all the crocheting in town.

"It has been just a wonderful addition over the last few months.

"I know there has been a bit of a problem with the guardsmen disappearing and reappearing, but it has brought local joy and a bit of national focus to Kenilworth - including a feature on the national news.

"I think it is right that we as a council write to her on behalf of the council and the people of Kenilworth to thank her for all her hard work and efforts and for doing something so spontaneous and creative."

Carol has been making postbox toppers since the start of the pandemic

Councillors agreed, with new Mayor of Kenilworth Cllr Sam Louden-Cooke saying she would also write to the various artists who have displayed their work across the town.

"We will write to these people to say thank you for everything they have done to make Kenilworth so fantastic and even more colourful for the jubilee," she added.
