Councillors have thanked volunteers for their help create "wonderful memories" during Kenilworth's People's Street Party for the Platinum Jubilee.

Warwick Road was closed throughout the day on Friday, June 3 as the town celebrated the Queen's 70-year-reign.

With he town centre street bedecked with bunting, a temporary stage for live music, and tables and chairs, the town came together for a "wonderful" community picnic.

But with volunteers and Kenilworth Town Council members working for weeks to get the event organised, councillors have thanked local people for their contributions in making the day a success.

"When we were setting up we were wondering whether we would fill the street. But the party got started really well and really early and by 10.30am it was really rocking and it continued to rock all day. It was the most wonderful experience," said Cllr Alix Dearing at last week's KTC meeting.

Adding: "I have nothing but wonderful memories of it.

"The clearing up was done at lightening speed, possibly because it rained at just the right time which also helped people disperse.

"It was a wonderful site to see everyone help clear up because within half an hour of the end of it, it was all done."

Cllr Alison Firth added: "Before you knew it, it was absolutely throbbing. There were people everywhere with blankets down, and all the acts went really well. It was absolutely fantastic. Well done Kenilworth."

In particular councillors thanked the new mayor for her work in the weeks before, even though she could not attend the party on the day.

"And I must thank our mayor, Cllr Sam Louden-Cooke - the work she did before was incredible," Cllr Dearing added.

"She couldn't be there on the day, she missed a fantastic occasion, but the work she did before set it out fantastically, but I'd just like to say well done."

Cllr Michael Coker added: "I enjoyed the whole day, it was so well organised - absolutely superb."
