Afghanistan: the Return of the Taliban

Ever an optimist, Dr Heidi Meyer, Master of the Lord Leycester Hospital, presents some arguments as to why it may be a good thing the Taliban have returned to lead the people of Afghanistan in a newly formed Islamic government.

Dr Meyer spent five years in Kabul, Afghanistan, working with the Afghan government to implement governance structures in the new democratic government. It would be natural for her to be disappointed after all that hard work, that the Taliban who returned to government in 2021 are now leading the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan with very different ideas of how a country should be run. During her presentation, Dr. Meyer will outline her reasoning as to why the return of the Taliban may have positive implications.
