A man has been charged with multiple offences after an incident which saw the M42 shut for several hours yesterday morning (July 10).

Geoffrey Brewer, of no fixed address, was arrested at the scene and has now been charged with endangering road users and criminal damage.

Emergency services were called to a bridge between junctions four and five yesterday, with traffic stopped for around five hours as the incident developed.

The 52-year-old has also been charged with common assault, as well as two counts of causing racially aggravated harassment, alarm or distress, one count of causing religiously aggravated harassment by alarm or distress, and a racially aggravated public order offence.

"We are grateful to the public for their patience as the incident was brought to a conclusion," West Midlands Police said.
