Kenilworth Wardens first team made it two wins from two with a 3-2 away win at Christ the King yesterday.

The Wardens were looking to build on their impressive 5-0 victory over Dunlop Reserves the week before to really kick start their season.

Wardens got off to a slow start yesterday as they adjusted to the windy conditions. Christ the King had the first chance of the game with a low shot from the left which was comfortably gathered by the Wardens' keeper.

Wardens started to grow into the game after the first ten minutes, with Guy Pearson and Andy Legg having the best of the chances. Wardens took the lead shortly after, following some smart work down the right wing between Kingston, Twigger and Taylor, the ball was drilled across the box by Kingston, Guy Pearson was there to meet it at the back post, 1-0 to Wardens.

The goal settled the away side down and a second goal followed shortly after, Andy Legg worked the ball on to his left foot, stinging the keeper's hands with a fierce shot, Pearson was on hand the tap in the rebound to make it 2-0 to Wardens.

The rest of the first half passed without note, Christ the King were limited to long, hopeful balls from their keeper which were duly dealt with by Neeld and Legg.

The second half was one to forget for the Kenilworth side. Struggling to regain any control over the game, Christ the King were allowed to push forward; only an outstanding double save from Whitehouse kept them out.

The home side were finally rewarded when their forward isolated the Wardens centre half in the box. He managed to dig out a shot which found the bottom corner, halving the deficit to 2-1.

As the rain fell the referee failed to keep control of the game, a booking for Andy Legg was followed by some handbags and a sin bin for a Christ the King player. Several moments of poor officiating culminated in the referee awarding a penalty to Christ the King from what appeared an impeccably timed challenge by a Wardens player. The penalty was dispatched, and the scores evened up.

This would be the second time this season that the Wardens had let a 2-0 half time lead slip, having done the same in their opening match with Dunlop Reserves.

However yesterday, the unjust decision drove Wardens on and the lead was quickly regained. An excellent through ball from Edmunds was latched on to by Andy Legg who slotted home. Despite some gamesmanship from the opposition linesman the goal stood making it 3-2 to Kenilworth Wardens.

Wardens saw the rest of the game through professionally securing another three points. The results means that Kenilworth Wardens remain fifth in the table, but sit just two points behind AFC Coventry in first place.

Speaking after the game goalscorer Guy Pearson said humbly "great to get the three points today and I was class."
