Kenilworth Wardens will look to build on their impressive 5-0 victory over Dunlop Reserves, as they travel to play Christ the King this weekend.
Kenilworth Wardens Firsts currently sit fifth in the Coventry Alliance Division Two having won once, drawn once, and lost once in their opening three fixtures of the season.
In those three games the Kenilworth outfit have netted eight times, and conceded six. Ben Edmunds is their top scorer on two goals, with the other six being shared around evenly.
Kenilworth Wardens Firsts came into the 2020/1 season full of hope, having shown fine form during their five preseason games. They remained unbeaten across those fixtures, winning four times, scoring 17 times, and conceding just seven.
However, faltering performances against Dunlop Reserves and AFC Coventry in their opening two games left the Wardens languishing in seventh position.
Manager Eamonn Richards will hope though that the return fixture against Dunlop Reserves last weekend can be used as a springboard for the rest of the season.
The Firsts had the full compliment of players last time out, and the step-up in cohesion from the week before was evident, as the hosts dominated the ball and found themselves 2-0 up at half time. This however, could have been cause for concern, as the away fixture against Dunlop had seen Kenilworth lead by the same margin, only to be pegged back for a 2-2 draw.
Last weekend though, was a different story, and Wardens were able to cruise to a 5-0 victory.
Their opponents this weekend are yet to keep a clean sheet this season, and have the exact same record as Kenilworth Wardens, behind them in the league only on goal difference.
Christ the King sit in sixth with a goal difference of minus four, having conceded nine times in just three games this season.
Curiously the two sides did not actually face each other last season, despite being in the same league. The lockdown saw the season cut short, without the two sides lining up against each other, and as such tomorrow's fixture is slightly harder to predict.
That being said, if Wardens can produce the same level as they did during preseason and in their last outing, they will be a very tough team to beat.
Speaking to Nub News before the match, Eamonn Richards said "we are hoping for a good performance tomorrow, last Saturday we finally clicked as a team and looked as good as we did in preseason.
"If we continue to have a settled side, have the work rate, organisation and quality in the final third shown last Saturday there is no reason we couldn't look to finish in the top two or three or even win the league this season."
Kick off is at 2.15pm at Bablake Playing Fields
