A local ladies gym is set to spend August focusing on menopause and exercise.

Curves Kenilworth, in Talisman Square, is encouraging women to start thinking about their lifestyles and what they can be doing to keep healthy.

"The menopause is a good time to take stock and adopt and healthier bone friendly lifestyle," says Jane Westrope - Curves owner.

"We can lose up to 20 per cent of our bone density in the first five to seven years post menopause."

The town centre gym is designed specifically for women, and promotes a 30-minute full body workout which can help you burn as many as 480 calories in one session.

Workouts can be tailored to people of all abilities and any age, and for those looking for specific areas of support.

"Our Curves gym is specifically designed to for women through their life stages of fitness and health needs," added manager Eleanor Bovill.

"Our strengthening circuit really aids ladies with menopausal symptoms as our machines help maintain bone density to prevent osteoporosis and increase flexibility which incidentally also helps those aches and pain that can be part of the menopause.

"We also see our ladies mentally feeling better and rejuvenated from their regular 30 minute workouts."

The team says it is not just the exercise that helps members, but being part of a likeminded community, hearing about local initiatives and clubs, making friends and heading off for a coffee and chat after a workout are all also beneficial.

"We see a lot of ladies who are suffering with anxiety and body image issues come through our doors," Eleanor said.

"A few months at Curves, surrounded by a supportive community, these ladies are less anxious and feeling so much better about themselves.

"Confidence levels grow and there's a spring to their step. It is so rewarding as a coach to be part of their journey."

Curves' 30 minute full body workout can also help normalise sleep patterns, reduce blood pressure, help with early stage diabetes and helps manage arthritis.

To encourage ladies to come and see what Curves community is all about, Curves Kenilworth is offering a complimentary one-to-one workout with one of its coaches - with no obligation to join.

Anyone who decides to join after their workout will also receive a 20 per cent discount on their joining fee plus a no contract tie in to their membership.

To book your complimentary workout call 01926 853000 or email [email protected].
