Our editor, James, takes a look back at the biggest headlines from the last month in Kenilworth

This April Passenger trains stopped in Kenilworth for the first time since January. The line from Leamington to Nuneaton was closed by West Midlands Railway due to staff shortages at the beginning of 2021.

Alongside the station, we have seen the reopening of non-essential shops and outdoor hospitality. This has allowed the Virgins and Castle, the Tiltyard, the Almanack and a number of other local pubs to invite customers in once again.

Forrest Coffee House has also continued to adapt, now serving alcohol to customers sat in its new outdoor seating area.

Warwick Road has also benefited from a splash of colour in the latest art display in the empty 'Poundland' unit. 'Secret Views of Kenilworth' have been captured on canvas by a number of local creatives.

There has been less positive news however for Christian cafe The King's Table which has taken the decision to close. One of Kenilworth's 'pocket parks' has also been dismantled by the council.

Change continues to present itself, as a planning application for 620 new houses in Kenilworth has also been approved. Similarly, the consultation over traffic calming measures for Warwick Road closed this April.

Investment in the town has also come via the town council which gave a grant of £100,000 to the Talisman Theatre.

Community Spirit

One of the best things about running the Kenilworth Nub News site, is speaking to the large number of people invested in doing things for others in this town.

April has been no exception.

This past week the mayor has presented awards to three local people in recognition of their contributions to the community.

Five-year-old Laurie Rose has also been thanked by the mayor for his litter picking exploits across Kenilworth.

Local on-call firefighter, and 'Community Champion', Alison Insley has begun handing out free lateral flow testing kits to residents.

To look forward to

Alongside the launch of our free 'What's On' events page there have been a number of announcements to look forward to this month.

Details of the inaugural Kenilworth Naturewatch week were announced this week. This fits in nicely with the launch of the 'Bee-Friendly Kenilworth' campaign which is aiming to increase biodiversity in the town.
