Planning application for up to 620 houses and a new primary school in Kenilworth approved

By James Smith 5th Aug 2021

A planning application for a new primary school and up to 620 new houses in Kenilworth has today (April 16) been approved by Warwick District Council.

The houses are to be built on the land east of Glasshouse lane, around the Woodside Hotel and behind the development of the new Kenilworth School.

Application W/18/1635 was first submitted in August 2018 by Catesby Estates Plc.

A number of issues, including access from Crewe Lane and from Glasshouse Lane to the major development, have slowed the application down.

The decision notice from WDC said: "Notice is hereby given that outline planning permission is granted for [the] demolition of existing farmhouse and agricultural buildings, and outline planning application for residential development of up to 620 dwellings [and] new primary school".

42 objections, dating from between August 2018 and the start of 2021, can be seen on the application.

These include two separate objections from Kenilworth Town Council, the first of which (from November 2018) raised concerns about road access and traffic, in particular.

Access to the site from Glasshouse Lane will see a new roundabout installed at the current junction with Stansfield Grove.

As well as houses and a new primary school, a number of community allotments are also included in the application.

The planning application forms one part of a number of developments proposed for the land east of Kenilworth. More details on the planning application for the rest of the area can be found here.
