Kenilworth Wardens scored five for the second game in a row as they travelled to play Christ the King Reserves.

The game promised to be a high scoring affair with Wardens beating Coventry Polonia 5-2 last time out, and Christ the King having beaten Triumph Reserves 7-1 the week before.

In an even start, Wardens took the lead on the 20th minute. After Guy Pearson was fouled, he took a quick free kick to strike partner Dan Twigger.

Twigger took the ball on his chest 20 yards out and then powered between two defenders before finishing powerfully between the goalkeepers legs.

Wardens had Andy Whitehouse to thank for keeping the score at 1-0 after a mistake from Eamonn Richards led to a strong shot to the top corner expertly turned over by the diving goalkeeper.

Wardens continued to create chances, with Matt Legg having a goal chalked for offside following a set piece.

Despite not playing their best, Wardens took a 2-0 lead before half time. Andy Whitehouse hit a long ball forward, both Dan Twigger and Guy Pearson chased the ball down, Twigger tackled the Christ the King centre back, which fell to Pearson to tap in.

Christ the King took the game to Wardens in the second half, playing on the front foot and committing players forward. The hosts pulled a goal back on the 50th minute with a good finish following a set piece.

On 55 minutes Christ the King equalised with a brilliantly placed free kick into the top corner from 20 yards out.

Wardens responded to being pegged back immediately playing quicker and dominating possession.

Kenilworth retook the lead again on the 65th minute when Luca Valle played Twigger into the channel to cross perfectly to Pearson to pass in for his second goal of the game.

On the 70th minute Wardens scored their fourth.

A high press from debutant Connor Ratcliff, Pearson and Roger Kingston led to Pearson winning the goal back in the Christ the King box.

Pearson turned his marker and whilst passing was fouled from behind. A penalty was given and man of the match Pearson calmly passed home for his hat trick.

On the 80th minute, Christ the King took a long goal kick, surprisingly the diminutive Richards won a towering header on the half way line which turned into a through ball for Ratcliff to bravely out jump the host's keeper to head in from 20 yards.

Despite several more chances for Wardens in the last 10 minutes the score remained 5-2 for the second game on the bounce.

Speaking after the game manager Richards said: "Considering the difficulties we had with player availability this week I'm really happy with the win and the performance.

"I'm really happy with the intelligence, ability and leadership of our players which shone through today. Really grateful to Guy Pearson and Luca Valle who both played through injuries today.

"Pearson once again showed how important he is for us, with eight goals and six assists this seasons. He's also the only player to play every minute of every game.

"He's been brilliant every game this year and we're lucky to have him."
