5. Tree falls across Kenilworth ford

The start of 2025 brought heavy rainfall to Kenilworth and South Warwickshire, with the Castle Road ford flooded for many days.

And as well as a van driver getting his vehicle stuck while trying to drive through it, a tree also fell, blocking the road.

4. Green light for HS2 cutting which will pass within 20 metres of local park homes

As ever, HS2 has dominated the headlines throughout 2025.

Among these stories was the news designs for an HS2 cutting - which will pass within metres of a local park home estate - had been signed off.

The high speed rail developer has been given the green light for the 530 metre-long 'Bockenden Cutting' which will connect to the southern end of the Burton Green 'cut and cover' tunnel.

Plans show the cutting - which runs roughly parallel to Red Lane - will come within touching distance of Broadwell Wood Residential Park.

3. Troubled Victorian mansion house hotel near Kenilworth on the market after latest closure

A troubled south Warwickshire hotel has been put on the market just weeks after closing once again.

Wroxall Abbey shut suddenly in January just two years after the site had reopened under new owners.

The news was the latest in a series of problems for the Birmingham Road former manor house, which had closed previously in 2019.

After two years of sitting empty, it reopened again in 2021 under the Trinity Hotel Group, but would shut once more in August 2022 Trinity went into administration.

2. Opening date confirmed for new Kenilworth Wetherspoon pub

March brought the news that Wetherspoon was making major steps forward in opening its new Kenilworth pub and had confirmed its opening date.

Work began on site at The Square in February after a protracted planning process since the pub chain it was announced it was coming to town in 2022.

Work started after the pub's controversial new name was also announced.

And now Wetherspoon has told Nub News 'The Dictum of Kenilworth' will open on Wednesday 30 July for the first time.

1. A46 Closes and Reopens for HS2 Works

We are cheating a bit for the best-read story of 2025 so far - as in reality our coverage of the three-week A46 closure spanned many pieces.

Having broken the news of when the road would close, we then got down to the dual carriageway to go behind the scenes during the works.

Ultimately, the road actually reopened earlier than planned after the huge new bridge structure was moved into place.

And we shared lots of photos and videos of the works.
