Green light for HS2 cutting which will pass within 20 metres of local park homes

Designs for an HS2 cutting which will pass within metres of a local park home estate has been signed off.
The high speed rail developer has been given the green light for the 530 metre-long 'Bockenden Cutting' which will connect to the southern end of the Burton Green 'cut and cover' tunnel.
The HS2 Act decrees the cutting would be made, with Warwick District Council allowed to comment on certain elements of the design.
Plans show the cutting - which runs roughly parallel to Red Lane - will come within touching distance of Broadwell Wood Residential Park.
The development will also see a 172-metre long retaining wall which will be 3.5 metres high.
The cutting - already roughly created by works in the area - will also see public footpath W168 realigned and the Kenilworth Greenway temporarily rerouted during construction.
Signing off on the designs, a council report said: "I am satisfied that no modifications to the scheme are required, and the proposed development is not considered to result in harm to the local environment or amenity, nature conservation or archaeology, in accordance with the outlined local plan policies.
"Furthermore, I do not consider that the development ought to, and could reasonably, be carried out elsewhere within the development’s permitted limits."
