A troubled south Warwickshire hotel has been put on the market just weeks after closing once again.

Wroxall Abbey shut suddenly in January just two years after the site had reopened under new owners.

The news was the latest in a series of problems for the Birmingham Road former manor house, which had closed previously in 2019.

After two years of sitting empty, it reopened again in 2021 under the Trinity Hotel Group, but would shut once more in August 2022 Trinity went into administration.

Wroxall was then taken over that September by family-run business ONS International, the director of which - Paresh Thakkar - had been involved in running the hotel with Trinity.

After two years under the latest ownership (now using the name JGBM Hotel Limited), the hotel closed once again.

And now the 72-bed hotel is on the market for lease through property agents Colliers International Property Consultants and Savills.

"Wroxall Abbey Hotel is set within 27 acres of landscaped grounds and open parkland, in the heart of Warwickshire," the brochure said.

"Ideally positioned, the hotel benefits from excellent transport links and proximity to a range of local attractions, making it a popular destination for both corporate and leisure guests."

The brochure says the price for the property is only available on application.

But any new tenant would have to invest a significant amount in refurbishing the site, as 24 of the bedrooms - in the courtyard - are "in shell condition and require a full refurbishment".

Similarly the spa and leisure facilities including a swimming pool and treatment rooms "require a full refurbishment".

The brochure continues: "Dating back to the 12th century, Wroxall Abbey Hotel is a magnificent Grade II listed country house set within 27 acres of landscaped parkland.

"Steeped in history, the estate has connections to William Shakespeare and was once the residence of Sir Christopher Wren.

"Prior to its closure, the property served as a premier conference and function venue, with letting bedrooms in an idyllic Warwickshire setting."

Wroxall Abbey can be used as a wedding venue with capacity for up to 650 guests.

The 14th century St Leonard's Church on site has also been recommissioned.

"The mansion is a grade II listed Victorian building that has retained much of its original and historic features," the brochure added.

"Its 48 en-suite bedrooms are individually designed, with air conditioning, spa baths, and original marble fireplaces in many rooms.

"The mansion also contains a selection of grand public spaces, including the Broadwood Bar, Garden Lounge, Sonnets Restaurant, Vaults Suite, and several function rooms."
