Local residents will be given their say on plans to extend a 30mph speed limit and install speed cushions along Warwick Road.

The town council has approved a £63,000 spend from its CIL budget for the ‘Kenilworth Gateway’ scheme which aims to improve safety along the busy road.

Councillors also said the scheme would help connect residents on the Pavilions estate with the rest of the town.

But before any work begins on the project, local residents will be given the chance to share their views.

First, around 250 nearby houses will be sent leaflets asking for feedback on two designs for the scheme.

Once results are analysed there will be a formal consultation on the preferred option.

A letter from Cllr Rik Spencer read at last finance and general services meeting of Kenilworth Town Council said: “Warwickshire County Council is preparing a letter to send to local residents to gauge public reaction.

“This will comprise the desired proposal and a second compromised proposal.

“This runs for three weeks starting late February.”

It added: “The team really want to gain public support following the cancellation of the traffic calming scheme for Warwick Road in the town centre.”

A final decision on whether the scheme will go ahead is expected in April.

The Warwick Road project follows a petition submitted to Warwickshire County Council by local residents calling on members to "see sense" and move the 30mph speed limit past the entrance to the estate.

Residents also called for more street lighting and better cycling provision.
