Possible completion date for Kenilworth to Leamington cycleway announced despite 'glacial progress'

Town councillors continue to be frustrated by the "slower than glacial" progress on work to create a 5km cycle link between Kenilworth and Leamington.
While construction of the very first phase of the much-delayed K2L cycleway is now complete, Warwickshire County Council (WCC) is yet to confirm the details for the most complex parts of the route, around Chesford Grange.
But Cllr Andrew Milton gave some positive news at last week's Kenilworth Town Council meeting, confirming WCC officers had assured him the project would be completed by the end of 2027.
While he conceded this is "a very long way off" he said "at least it is a date".
Frustration was still levelled at updates from the local authority on K2L's progress.
"They continually highlight the same issues," Cllr Milton said.
"I have been involved in discussions around K2L for probably around seven or eight years and when I started to get involved we were told 'yes it is quite complicated because there are issues around land ownership and there was the challenge of crossing the river at Chesford Grange'.
"Seven or eight years on we are still facing those challenges and we are still facing challenges in trying to cross the river - I know there might be an obvious solution that members may wish to suggest!"
The county council approved the near £5 million budget for the K2L scheme in 2020 before giving full approval for the 5km cycleway in January 2021.
WCC leader Cllr Izzi Seccombe told Nub News in February 2022 the project could be "four to five years" before it was completed.
Town councillors will be given a further update by WCC in November.
