Here are the biggest planning stories from the last week in and around Kenilworth.

All-weather riding arena and stables refused

Plans to build an all-weather riding area and stables near Bakers Lane have been refused by Warwick District Council.

Councillors had originally delayed the decision so they could visit the site.

But after the inspection, and taking into account the numerous objections to the application, councillors refused to give permission.

Members said the development would "result in the degradation of the open character of the Green Belt". Adding: "there are no very special circumstances that outweigh the identified harm."

Major extension allowed

A major extension to a house on Littleton Close has been permitted by WDC despite objections from neighbours and Kenilworth Town Council.

The property will now have a two-storey side and rear extension as well as a loft conversion.

But neighbour Juergen Branke, said: "This proposal is neither usual nor an extension.

"It is not usual because of the enormity of the new house which will be more than double the size of the current house.

"It is not an extension because what will actually remain of the old house is negligible."

Bungalow to add second storey

A bungalow on Inchbrook Road will have a second storey added as well as a single storey rear extension despite objections from the town council.

KTC said: "The design does not harmonise with or enhance the existing neighbourhood.

"It is out of proportion with its surroundings."

But district council planning officers have given it the green light this week.

Athletes Village

The University of Warwick will host up to 2,000 athletes during this summer's Commonwealth Games after plans to build a temporary athletes village were approved. Whilst athletes will be roomed in student accommodation, a temporary gym, clinic and recreation centre will all be built. The village will only actually be in place for 28 days.
