Kenilworth Railway Station to be closed over Easter weekend to enable £2.4m works to Leamington bridge
All trains through Kenilworth Railway Station will be cancelled over the Easter weekend to enable "essential bridge upgrades" in Leamington Spa.
Rugby Road railway bridge, over the A445, will be completely replaced between Thursday 14 April and Tuesday 19 April as part of a £2.4million Network Rail investment.
A speed limit of 20mph is currently in place for trains because of the existing bridge's condition.
Whilst roads and footpaths will also be closed at certain times around the bridge, the service to Kenilworth will be a replacement bus from Friday 15 until Monday 18 April.
The announcement comes just days after the station reopened with a full rail service reinstated.
Warwick District Council has also given Network Rail permission to use the nearby Potterton Sports Fields as a temporary site compound during the project.
"This is essential passenger safety work which needs to be completed by Network Rail as soon as possible," said Cllr Alan Rhead, WDC's portfolio holder for environment and neighbourhood services.
"We are therefore happy to offer our support through the provision of part of Potterton Fields, Portobello Way on a temporary basis.
"Once complete the land will be restored to its former use as a public space with a number of enhancements being made to improve the biodiversity.
"While the southern part of the fields are currently fenced off at both bridge access points the rest of the park will remain open to the public."
