Kenilworth bar owner has 'lost the will to fight' to stay open but wants to hold one last community event
The owner of an outdoor bar in Kenilworth has "lost the will to fight" to keep her business running as local councils continue to do their best to shut it down.
Now slapped with a legal ruling that prevents her from running the venue without planning permission, Gabrielle Parry says she wants to hold one last event at the Garden Bar at the Pavilion before she calls it a day.
Warwick District Council's cabinet passed an article four direction earlier this month, limiting what can be done at the Castle Road site.
The decision was backed by Kenilworth Town Council and the town's MP Sir Jeremy Wright and was the culmination of a two-year running battle with neighbours.
"I'm so sick of the fight, I just can't keep going. I am happy to just call it a day with the events," Gabrielle told Nub News.
"It just costs more and more money each time.
"Fine, they have stopped the events and yes they have won, but they are not pleasing their constituents.
"Loads of people love it, I think they are just going backwards in Kenilworth, they do not want to go forwards.
"Unfortunately until these Tory councillors are out, that's the way it has got to be in Kenilworth."
Gabrielle, who is allowed to challenge the order, said her biggest concern now was not letting down the traders she had booked for a Christmas market on November 26.
She said it was not fair for those small businesses to lose out on trade just because some residents do not like having an outdoor bar in the town.
She said: "I just want one last event, for all the people who have signed up for this Christmas market, that is the thing that is worrying me most.
"Obviously things are tight at the moment, they signed up ages ago.
"They have got all their wares to sell coming up to Christmas, I just hope there is something we can do."
She added: "If we can just hold this one event I really don't see the harm that would do to Kenilworth.
"I don't see how the Pavilions hurt Kenilworth anyway, but I would really like this Christmas market to go ahead so people can sell their waves and make their livelihoods this year."
While she described the battle with neighbours and the council as "horrific", Gabrielle also thanked the many customers who had made running the Pavilions "a joy".
"I am also grateful that we have had two years of lovely times, really wonderful people coming to the Pavilion, being really supportive and having a good time," she said.
"But I am tired of fighting this, it has been mentally awful, it has been really horrific. I just can't keep fighting it."
More than 1,100 people have signed a petition the Garden Bar at the Pavilion open.
