A Kenilworth councillor has warned that the worst is soon to come, as HS2 steps up works around the town.

Having recently revealed that Dalehouse Lane could be closed for more than a year, HS2 is set to intensify works along Coventry Road and in Burton Green.

And with more closures of local roads announced, Cllr Micheal Coker said the impact on local residents is likely to intensify in the coming months.

"We are verging into the problems that we expected because roads are going to be closed in the next few months," he said at last week's Kenilworth Town Council meeting.

"And we are going to have that difficulty of two roads being closed at the same time unless everyone is careful."

But following one of the council's regular meetings with HS2 Balfour Beatty Vinci, Cllr Coker said there is already an effective system in place for resolving local issues.

"The major thing though, is we have established with BBV a relationship where we can raise matters, and do raise matters and do get some reaction," he added.

"It can be done reasonably quickly.

"We are going to run into problem times, so it is essential that those of you who are here after May, make sure it continues because it is very useful."

Councillors were also told there has been a reduction in the number of local complaints to HS2 about roads being covered in mud by HGV's.

They were also informed that at the end of July there will be a 220-hour halt of services along the Coventry to Leamington Spa line to put in place the new bridge.
