The latest update on Kenilworth's two new leisure centres has been released by the town council.

Presented at the last Kenilworth Town Council meeting, a report said the work at Castle Farm remains on track while the Abbey Fields project continues to be held up.

Having discovered more archaeological remains, the developers are also now trying to find a new location for the substation.

Originally intended to be near the play area, a new location is yet to be agreed. The old substation has been disconnected.

The junior playground will remain open during the work. However, there will be some days when this area will need to be closed, due to the nature of the work being undertaken on the site.

"It is acknowledged that there will be a degree of disruption to residents, park users etc. during the project," the report said.

"The project team will work with the contractors to minimise this.

"The project team recognise the sensitivity of Abbey Fields in terms of the scheduled monument status, the wildlife, and the value of the area itself to local residents. This is constantly being communicated to the contractors and will be throughout the duration of the project."

Castle Farm

Across town at Castle Farm the perimeter tarmacking is complete, and almost all the roof is now in place.

Electricity at the building has also been turned on.

The new car park and extension is progressing, this has allowed more contractor parking on site.

The report also said the district council is continuing to work with the Scouts and Guides about designing their new facilities.

Residents can book slots to 'go behind the hoardings' and see the work at Castle Farm - make a booking here.
