Kenilworth Wardens' Sunday side got back to winning ways with an impressive 4-0 win against Cubbington FC to move into second place in the Leamington and District division three table.
Wardens started the game well, with James Butcher and Eamonn Richards dominating possession in the middle of the pitch.
Dan Twigger twice came close with deep runs and powerful shots from the edge of the box, however Cubbington's keeper made two great saves to keep the game level.
At the other end Cubbington got into some good areas, with their best chance a free header six yards out which was horribly misjudged by the Cubbington striker, going slowly out for a goal kick.
Wardens took the lead on 30 minutes thanks to brilliance from Dane Watt. A James Butler throw in was flicked on in the box by Andy Legg. Watt reacted quickest running the ball towards the corner flag.
Watt then backheeled the ball through the defender's legs straight into the path of the sprinting Andy Legg who toe poked home from four yards out.
Wardens started the second half brightly as well, with substitute Ben Edmunds looking dangerous. On 55 minutes he received the ball from a throw in in the box, whilst protecting the ball Edmunds was bundled over from behind, leaving the referee no option than to award wardens a penalty.
Legg stepped up and passed the ball into the corner for his second of the game.
Edmunds had a great chance to make it three when his arching run was found expertly by Richards, however Cubbington's keeper made a brilliant save to keep them in the game.
Controversy hit on 65 minutes. Cubbington had the ball in the net however was flagged for offside in the build up. During the frustration a Cubbington player was sinbinned for dissent.
Five minutes later a Cubbington corner was headed towards goal, with keeper Alex Brown stopping the ball on the line. Cubbington players felt it was over the line and a second player was sinbinned for dissent.
Immediately Wardens were down to 10 men when Cameron Holden was sinbinned for dissent following an offside decision in favour of Cubbington.
Brown then pulled off an excellent save to keep his clean sheet intact. A powerful shot from the edge of the box took a big deflection off the knee of Richards, however the Kenilworth shot stopper was able to get a strong hand to the ball sending it for a corner.
With the game still in the balance Edmunds scored the goal which sealed the game with 15 left to play. Edmunds received the ball in the box, beat four players and squared to Holden.
Holden's shot was saved, Edmunds received the rebound facing his own goal 18 yards out, spun and nonchalantly curled the ball into the top corner. Edmunds scoring his 10th goal in 10 games this season for all sides across the club.
With a minute left to play a Richards' flick was helped on by Harry Morris to Edmunds, who ran to the byline and crossed to the back post for top scorer Twigger to head in. Twigger's 19th goal of the season for the Sunday side and Edmunds seventh assist across all teams.
Speaking after the game manager Paddy Breslin said: "Today was by far the best squad we've had available this season and it showed.
"Cubbington FC are a great side with a great set up but they couldn't live with us and let their heads go.
"To be where we want to be we need to have that sort of quality from the very beginning of next season and throughout the entire campaign.
"That is what we will be working on as a club over the summer."
