Wardens progressed into the next round of the Bedworth Nursing Cup with a comfortable 4-2 victory against Coventry United u21s.

The Kenilworth side started brightly and nearly took the lead in the opening minutes when Eamonn Richards won an interception and played to Ben Edmunds who beat two players before his shot cannoned off the crossbar.

A few minutes later Wardens again hit the woodwork. This time Butler won an interception and played to Richards, he played to the excellent Jack Boden to beat his man and drive towards the goal but his shot hit the post.

On 20 minutes Wardens thought they had taken the lead in bizarre fashion. A goal kick was taken and passed by United's centre back to the keeper, who missed it and ended up in the net, however the referee correctly stated it was a corner.

From the resulting corner Boden delivery was met by Cockburn whose header again hit the crossbar.

On 25 minutes Wardens had their best chance. Richards won the ball back after a high press 20 yards out and slipped in Harrison Wright. Wright slipped as his free shot 10 yards out went narrowly wide.

The Kenilworth outfit eventually took the lead on 35 minutes in bizarre fashion. Hayden Twycross recovered the ball on the right hand side, beat his man twice before putting in an excellent cross. It was recovered by Boden on the left whose cross found the number 10 at the back post. Under pressure from Twycross he got his clearance all wrong, slicing the ball over the keepers head and landing in the bottom corner.

Immediately after the break they doubled their advantage. Boden won the ball back deep in his half and released Wright. Wright drove down the pitch and crossed to Sol Bloomer. Bloomer beat his man and shot from 18 yards out his powerful shot slipping through the hands of the United's keeper.

United had their best spell following the second and Tom Day made two excellent one-on-one saves to keep the game 2-0.

Dylan Wright's introduction up top gave Wardens more energy and on 60 minutes he beat two players in the box before firing with his left foot into the top corner, only for the keeper to pull off an incredible save. However from the resulting corner, Richards' delivery was powerfully headed in by Edmunds.

Wardens came close from the resulting corners too. Cockburn's header was deflected onto the post, Adam Hnats volley went inches wide and a corner was flicked just past the post.

Wardens made the continued pressure pay when Richards' corner fell to Dylan Wright six yards out to volley into the top corner for his second goal in as many games.

United continued to push for a goal and they got a consolation in the 85 minute when a cross was deflected off the otherwise excellent Cockburn. Minutes later United got a second from a deflected cross from a corner.

"They're a talented bunch of lads who try and play passing football and clearly coached well," Richards said after the game.

"However the score line today doesn't reflect our dominance. We hit the woodwork five times today and had seven or eight more clear cut chances to score.

"If I was being really critical our last 10 wasn't good enough and we weren't clinical enough today. However it was an excellent performance.

"Feel like we've turned a corner, after only scoring 9 in our first 8 games we've scored 10 in our last two. Had Sol, Dylan, Harrison and Oli all contributing with goals and assists and obviously Jack Boden will contribute in every game he plays.

"Hopefully can take his good momentum into the Telegraph cup game against semi pro side Sutton United in two weeks time."
