Dan Twigger bagged his 50th goal for the club as he helped Kenilworth Wardens roll out 2-0 winners against Coventry Phoenix.
Hayden Twycross netted the other goal for the hosts as they recorded just a second league win of the campaign against a side which had won four on the bounce before Saturday.
Despite starting the day at the bottom of the table, Kenilworth started the better of the sides with Ben Edmunds and Twigger both looking dangerous on the counter attack.
The game then fell into a pattern of Phoenix having more possession but Wardens looking dangerous every time they won the ball on the counter.
James Clay came close on three occasions in the opening few minutes with headers inside the box, but could not keep the ball under the bar.
But the hosts did make the breakthrough on 20 minutes when captain James Butler won the ball back from a Coventry goal kick, his header being flicked on by Edmunds into the path of Twigger to take the ball wide before striking under the keeper. His 13th goal in just eight games completed his half century for the club.
Phoenix pushed for an equalizer and their best chance fell to captain Blake Kassar who turned Wardens' defence inside the box but his shot from a tight angle went inches wide.
On 35 minutes Butler's throw in went into the box to Clay who controlled and laid it to Twycross who calmly passed the ball towards goal from the edge of the box. Despite a lack of pace on the effort, it wrong footed the keeper and hit the back of the net to double Kenilworth's advantage.
After the half time break Phoenix changed personnel and system to try and create more chances.
But excellent defending, in particular from Alex Bradley and James Brewitt, they were unable to test Tom Day in the Wardens net. Their closest chance game on 55 minutes when a corner was headed away to the edge of the box and the shot went inches wide.
Despite the Phoenix pressure, Wardens looked more likely to score on the break, with Edmunds and Twigger both missing two chances each on the counter.
Kassar had another chance late on but his excellent header was again inches over. Day was forced into his only save minutes later, excellently pushing away a powerful shot on the edge of the box.
Wardens continued to look the more likely to score, with Harrison Wright putting two excellent crosses into the box with any contact would have led to a goal, Jack Boden having a powerful effort narrowly wide.
Wardens best chance to add to their tally came with five minutes left when Eamonn Richards played Dan Twigger through for a one on one with the keeper, but his powerful shot missed the target by inches.
Wardens win moved them up three places to seventh and Phoenix's loss dropped them to third, denting their title chasing.
"Phoenix are my opinion the best team in the league. Their players are excellent and they play some incredible football," player-manager Eamonn Richards said after the game.
"However, despite everything I was confident we’d win today and we fully deserved it.
"Really we had 15 good chances to score compared to their three or four, so if anything critical we didn’t win by more. And that’s our third clean sheet in a row on our home pitch and we know how to play on it.
"There was some excellent individual performances but really it was just an incredible team performance, lead by our 4/5 experienced players but executed by all 14 players who played.
"Tactically we got everything right today, but tactics mean nothing if the effort isn’t there and the lads ran their socks off. We changed formation three times in the second half to combat their changes and had 8 different players play centre mid in the game but all the lads followed instructions excellently.
"It’s taken half a season and a lot of changes in personnel but I’m finally at a point where I’m happy with my 19 man squad and know exactly what the lads can do. Moving forward I expect these sort of results for the rest of the year."
