Kenilworth Wardens Reserves bounced back with a dominant 3-0 victory on the road at RS Sports to keep tabs at the top of the Coventry Alliance division three table.
With the referee being a no-show and the visitors having a considerable amount of players unavailable, Wardens knew they needed to dig deep to get a result.
But after a slow start on a boggy pitch they went close when Charlie Waters skipped past his man before crossing into Leo Parnell-Notice who saw his effort hit the bar.
Wardens eventually found their breakthrough when again Waters burst into the RS box and was bought down. Archie Evans was cool as ever from the spot and sent Wardens on their way.
Shortly before the break, a moment of brilliance from George Ferridge saw him beat four players before calmly finishing into the RS net.
The second half started how the first half ended with Wardens in full control. They thought they had added a third when Ferridge played in young Rowan whose brilliant effort found the top corner only for the goal to be ruled offside.
RS had a chance to pull one back when Evans bought down the RS winger in the box for a penalty, which they failed to convert.
Shortly after the hosts had another chance when a free kick was saved by stand-in goalkeeper Mark Hickey; the forward then saw his effort expertly tipped over the bar by the makeshift shot stopper.
Boosted by an excellent individual performance by MOTM Jay Blackburn, Wardens continued to work hard, with an eagerly waited return for manager Kris Brandram needed to freshen things up for the 12-man squad.
Then on the final whistle Evans' peach of a ball found Frankie Murray who squared to Rowan to slot home his first goal in men's football and seal a 3-0 win for Wardens.
