Goals from Toby Wells and Guy Pearson saw Kenilworth Wardens claim three points from Jet Blades to leapfrog them back to the top of the Coventry Alliance Premier table.

The hosts were dealt an early blow when new signing Danny Bartle was injured in the warm up. And both sides had to deal with the poor playing conditions after a week of heavy rain.

In an even first half hour Wardens created the better of the chances - captain Luca Valle played in Ben Edmunds and his one-two with Wells gave him a chance from a tight angle which was saved by the Blades keeper.

Moments later Edmunds was played in behind again, this time by Pearson, but after beating three players his effort went wide.

However the Kenilworth outfit took a deserved lead on 30 minutes. Eamonn Richards passed to Pearson, who beat two players and played a perfect through ball to Edmunds, who squared to Wells to slot into the open goal for his third goal in as many games.

Blades - who came into the game on the back of five straight wins - nearly struck straight back with their striker evading two tackles before opting to shot from a tight angle which was smartly stopped by Andy Whitehouse.

Following the restart the visitors continued to pile on the pressure but were unable to create more work for Whitehouse.

The hosts went close to extending their lead, with long range efforts from Valle and Moss both going close.

With 20 minutes left Harrison Wright and first team debutant Willem France came off the bench.Their energy and athleticism supported Wardens to show an attacking threat rarely seen in the second half.

And on 75 minutes Wardens made it two.

After good work from Wright and France, the ball was played to Edmunds on the right.

Despite Edmunds initially getting tackled, he won the ball back, beat two players and slipped it in for Pearson who slotted past the Blades keeper - a landmark finish for the Wardens man, securing his 100th goal contribution for Kenilworth Wardens.

Speaking after the game Kenilworth manager Eamonn Richards said

"First five games of the season we won four and I really wasn't happy with our performance levels, we were winning because we have talented footballers and riding our luck rather than winning because we were a good and balanced side.

"After losing to Copsewood and Cov Phoenix we've made changes to our style and balance in midfield and it's showed; now we are the team I want us to be.

"Three matches ago I spoke before the game about defensive structure and if we keep a clean sheet we'll win due to talented forward players we'll always score.

"Since then we've won all three and haven't conceded a single goal.

"With the signing we've made plus players coming back from injury I'm hoping we can continue this current form and see where we are at the end of the season.

"Shoutout to club legend Guy Pearson as well, today was his 66th goal for wardens, which added to his 34 assists means he's hit triple digits for goal contributions.

"He's been a great player for us and is a great person also."
