Can Kenilworth Sporting make it seven in a row this weekend?

League leaders Kenilworth Sporting FC will play their fifth away game of the season this weekend, as they travel west to play Upton Town.

Upton currently sit seventh in the Midlands League Division Three on a respectable tally of ten points. Kenilworth find themselves eight points and six positions ahead of their hosts this weekend, as they top the table having won all of their opening six games.

This weekend's hosts were held to a 2-2 draw by Leamington Hibernian last time out, a side that Kenilworth rolled over 4-1 on their homecoming back in September.

Hibernian are however, the only side that both Upton and Kenilworth have played, so it is hard to gauge how well-matched the two sides will be on Saturday.

Upton's only defeat of the season came against Central Ajax, a 3-0 home loss at the beginning of September.

Regardless of this weekend's opposition, Sporting will be full of confidence. With six wins from six, and twenty goals scored across those games, the Kenilworth outfit certainly are the the favourites. Especially given that their opponents are yet to keep a clean sheet this season.

New top-scorer Tyrone Wilson (6) will be hoping to add to his hat trick last weekend with more goals this time out. Upton meanwhile have only Zaqib Hussain (3) to register more than twice this season, and all three of those came in the same match against Solihull in early September.

Sporting will also be boosted by new signings Sam Watts and Sean Burke who will both offer more options going forward.

One big absentee for Kenilworth this weekend will be manager Martin Ascroft who has not attended a match since his double hip operation two weeks ago. The team will remain under the steady control of assistant manager Luke Hopkins.

Speaking to Kenilworth Nub News ahead of Saturday's game Martin said "Upton have had a decent start to the season so we are expecting another tough encounter.

"We go into the game on the back of a very tough game against Coventrians. The team showed Luke and myself a side to their game we had not really seen so far this season.

"To go behind in the game as early as we did, but then to come back to win the game 4-3 showed us character and the never say die attitude any successful team needs.

"Injury and lack of availability means the squad will be pushed to its limits, but competition for places is good and we are more than happy with the squad we take to Upton."

Shuffling the pack?

Other fixtures this weekend could also be favourable to Kenilworth Sporting.

Second-placed Enville Athletic host fourth-placed AFC Solihull, a result which could see real space grow between Sporting and the rest of the league.

This being said, third-placed Inkberrow have won four from four thus far, scoring 23 goals in the process.

Should they win their two games in hand it would be likely that Inkberrow would go to the top of the table on goal difference.

They travel to Welland in tenth place tomorrow, and will not play their games in hand until the start of next month.

Kick off for Kenilworth Sporting will be Saturday 17 October, 3pm. Kenilworth Nub News will bring you the full time news.
