Kenilworth Sporting came from behind to claim all three points from a very wet and soggy Boldmere Falcons.

Having gone into the break a goal ahead Sporting road their luck at times in the second half, but manager Martin Ascroft said his team deserved some good luck after recent results.

"We have played better and lost or drawn in the past, so I'll take a below par performance like today," he said.

"Boldmere deserved something from the game, but for once this season we had a little bit luck."

Sporting thought they'd made the perfect start when on two minutes some fast attacking football saw the ball in the back of the Boldmere net but it was ruled out for a tight offside.

Kenilworth continued to put pressure on a frail Boldmere defence but chance after chance was spurned by the Sporting forwards.

Boldmere stood firm and gradually grew in confidence as Kenilworth couldn't find that final finish to take the lead.

And it was the hosts that broke the deadlock with a neat finish from Aaron O'Neill just inside the box midway through the first half.

Kenilworth were rocked by the goal but continued to try and play on a pitch that was getting more and more cut up by the minute.

On 40 minutes the ball fell to the unmarked Dave Freeman who beat the on-rushing goalkeeper Josh Bennett to poke it past him and into the net.

Sporting then took the lead on the stroke of halftime. A long goal kick from George Woodward was not dealt with by the Boldmere defence, a weak back pass from Marcus Beckford was pounced upon by Mason Platts who tapped the ball past Bennett and slotted into the empty goal.

The second half was not as Kenilworth expected and Boldmere came out all guns blazing.

Playing down the slope Boldmere got the ball into the heart of the Kenilworth defence at every opportunity with the away side having to rely on some stout defending to make sure all three points were taken back to Gypsy Lane.

Ascroft gave credit to Boldmere after the game, but added that the conditions hadn't really favoured an expansive game of football.

"The pitch looked absolutely fine when we arrived, but it cut up really badly and to be fair to Boldmere, it suited them better than us," he added.

"We looked tired in the second half and struggled to get up the slope.

"Boldmere were the better side in the second half, we rode our luck and our goal led a charmed life."
