Kenilworth Wardens Reserves put four past Bourton and Frankton to make it two from two for new manager Adam Maltby.

Three goals in the first 30 minutes appeared to put Kenilworth in command, but after Bourton pulled two back Sean Povey's 75th minute tap-in was needed to make sure of all three points.

But the win in the Coventry Alliance Division Three mid-table clash puts Wardens well above the relegation spots with what was just their fourth win of the season.

A satisfied Maltby said he was impressed with his team's first half display: "Overall I'm very pleased with the performance.

"I said at the start we needed to carry on from the Balsall game and get on the front foot early, to get the three goals in the first half hour was pleasing.

"We allowed Bourton to come back into the game and it was a shame after a strong start we got a bit sloppy and gave the ball away."

With the game having to be moved to a 3G pitch Kenilworth started the game strongly, keeping possession well and looking dangerous going forward.

Wardens took the lead on 10 minutes from the penalty spot as James Butcher despatched a powerful spot kick straight down the middle of the goal.

The referee had pointed to the spot after Charlie Waters ran onto a ball into the channel and squared to Lee Jassi. Jassi's first touch took it away from his two markers, however a third player barged through the back of him, giving Wardens an easy penalty.

Just 10 minutes later Wardens doubled their advantage. Good build up play led to Lewis Barry receiving the ball on the byline and cutting back to the impressive Jassi to calmly pass the ball home.

On 28 minutes Kenilworth scored a third.

Right back Ross Farquharson, who had already played three exceptional forward and chance creating passes in the game, hit a long diagonal cross from the halfway line.

The ball went inches over the head of Bourton's right back, allowing Barry to kill the ball dead and pass into the corner of the net from just inside the box.

Wardens were then guilty of relaxing which led to an error from midfield. A bad pass went straight to the number 10 for Bourton, who punished the error with a brilliant strike from 30 yards.

Bourton finished the half on top, with Wardens thanking Charlie Shanks after a string of saves kept their two-goal lead.

The second half continued in the same vein with Bourton on top but not being able to beat Shanks in goal.

But victory for the hosts did look in doubt as Bourton got a goal back with 20 minutes left to play from a corner, where Wardens will be disappointed with the marking.

Despite Bourton being close to equalising, Wardens then woke up and began dominating possession again. and on 75 minutes they made it 4-2.

Luca Valle made a good run into the channel, his cross was intercepted by the Bourton keeper, but was spilled into the path of substitute Sean Povey, who passed in with his right foot from 3 yards.

The result, which maintains Wardens' fifth place, leaves Maltby with positives and things to work on.

"It was disappointing to concede a header from a corner as we're a tall side and perhaps a lapse in concentration," he said.

"But I'm delighted again with the build up that led to the penalty, the second and third were both goals of real quality and the forth again well worked before Sean was in the right place to tap home.

"Good luck to Bourton for the rest of the season."
