Wardens got their first win of the season after a come behind win against Coundon Court.

Coundon Court started the season poorly, losing their first four games, with Wardens only a point above after their 3-3 draw against top of the table Folly Lane the previous week.

Wardens started the game the better of the two teams, dominating possession. Wardens nearly scored early on when an excellent attacking move fell to left back and captain Sol Bloomer, however his finish could only hit the side netting.

Twenty-five minutes in Wardens thought they had the lead. Jack Boden played an excellent ball to Harrison Wright, whose well struck volley six yards out was somehow saved by the Coundon keeper.

Unfortunately moments after Wardens lost James Proctor to a bad injury and had to make an early change.

Against the run of play Coundon created a chance on the edge of the box and won a free kick. Veteran Antony Hatton stepped up and smashed the ball into the top corner to take the lead.

Following the goal Coundon were the better side, pressing high and winning the ball back from Wardens, but only forcing Tom Day in the Wardens goal into routine saves.

Following the restart, Wardens played with intent and early on Bloomer crossed to a free Adam Hnat six yards out, but he couldn't get his header on target.

Moments later Boden crossed to Wright at the back post, only for his effort to brush the post and hit the side netting,

Wardens continued to push for the equalizer and were rewarded on 60 minutes. A Boden corner was met by Alex Bradley, whose bullet header made the game even. Bradley's first goal in Wardens colours.

With both teams making subs the game opened up and both keepers were tested from long range efforts. Day made three good saves to keep the game even.

On 80 minutes Richards played the ball to Clay on the half way line, Clay's perfect clipped pass missed the defender and put Ollie Flynn in behind to square to Boden to tap in to take the lead.

Coundon tried to force an equaliser however Wardens came closest to finding the net again, with Boden, Flynn and George Ferridge all unable to convert chances.

Despite the best efforts of Coundon, including a header from their keeper from a corner in the last second, Wardens hung on for the win.

"Nice to get our first win. We changed our tactics today completely and some of the football we played was excellent. Still need a lot more work, especially in the final third, but shows real signs of improvement," Richards said after the game.

"What I loved today was players stepping up.

"Diarmuid playing out of position for 70 minutes, Ollie getting the final assist, Jack being decisive, Bradley scoring. But more than that, felt we had leaders out there today, which hasn't always felt the case.

"We need to continue to improve, but last two weeks performance levels have been really positive and at the standard I expected before the season started."
