George Ferridge's debut hat-trick saw Kenilworth Wardens Reserves to a deserved 4-1 victory over Coventry Phoenix Reserves to kick-start their preseason.

Manager Adam Maltby was able to give debuts to Sam Hood and Ferridge after bringing them in and adding a few young trialists against a side Wardens will face in the league this season.

After a fairly quiet and cagey first 15 minutes both teams a little sloppy in possession the first chance of the game came for Wardens a strike from the area forcing the keeper in to a decent save.

That seemed to settle the away side down and Wardens started to dominate possession.

The opening goal came from a neat move started in the middle from a Kingston interception ball making it's way to trialist Hoey who returned to Kingston who slid a perfectly weighted ball to Ferridge who slotted cooley passed the keeper.

After a Phoenix chance at the far post from a cross was wasted Wardens went straight on the attack, another four pass move found Charlie Waters with space to run in to behind the left back and they were punished with Waters slamming the ball into the roof of the net.

With five minutes to go till half time the two debutants combined, after some excellent work on the press from left back Hood although through on goal himself opted to slide across to Ferridge to slot in from eight yards for his second of the game.

Just after the break Ferridge could've wrapped up his hat trick but for a superb last ditch block from the Phoenix defender. However he didn't have to wait long, another well worked move saw Ferridge tap in for his well deserved hat trick on 57 minutes.

With the heat and some tired legs ten minutes from the end Wardens defence switched off allowing a cross to come in from a short give and go throw in and the header neatly dispatched.

Speaking after the game Maltby said there were many positives to take forward.

"Overall really pleased, nice to get an idea of them and what they're about as they'll be in our league this season," he said.

"But we've had George who's come in and grabbed a hat-trick on debut and a really solid showing from Sam Hood also on debut.

"Put that with very good performances from a few young lads and lead brilliantly by captain for the game Ross Farquarhson I'm delighted to be back with a win and some lovely team goals."
