Speaking ahead of their clash against Continental Star tomorrow (October 31) Kenilworth Sporting's manager Martin Ascroft has said he wants their Gypsy Lane home ground to become "a hard place to visit."
Speaking to Kenilworth Nub News ahead of the game, Ascroft praised last week's performance in Sporting's 5-0 demolition of Birmingham Tigers.
"I was delighted with the response from the players last weekend, scoring five, and conceding none was pleasing.
"Some impressive performances from Steer, with his first half hat trick and a polished performance from young defender Rose."
The win over Tigers saw Luke Steer and Tyrone Wilson both hit eight goals for the season, as Wilson hit a brace in the second half. The two now make up 16 of the side's 26 goals this season.
The defensive performance again was impressive; the fourth clean sheet of the season for a side that has conceded just seven in eight games.
Sporting remain top of the Midlands League Division Three, a spot they have sat in since their 3-0 win over Sutton United on October 3.
Despite the impressive form of his side, Ascroft is calling for players to remain focused and level headed.
"We looked up for it at training, working hard on all the session Luke [Hopkins] had set up, and we turned up focused on the job in hand on Saturday.
"We have two more consecutive home games where we would love to get maximum points and make Gypsy Lane a hard place to visit for any opposition."
Thus far this season, Ascroft's desire to see Gypsy Lane become a fortress has proved correct. Sporting have won all three of their home games this season, scoring thirteen times, and keeping two clean sheets.
That means that half their clean sheet and half their goals have come at home, despite having played almost twice as many away games this season.
Sporting now have back to back home games to look forward to, as they hope to extend their lead over Central Ajax.
Kenilworth will host third-bottom Continental Star this weekend. Continental have won just once all season, a 4-3 thriller against Tigers in September.
They have scored thirteen and conceded twenty-seven in eight games, so the form guide would suggest that this will be another three points for Sporting.
Gypsy Lane will then play host to tenth-placed Welland the week after.
Kenilworth Nub News will bring you the full time results of both games.
Kick off against Continental Star is 3pm Saturday, October 31.
