For the last three months a new marketing group within Cycleways has been working hard to improve their online presence with a view to recruiting more members and thus strengthening the voice on behalf of cyclists in Kenilworth, Warwick and Leamington. Now it is your opportunity to help.

Cycleways is a volunteer group, founded in 1995, campaigning for better cycle provision in the area.

Cycling in the UK is currently at a turning point. More and more people across the nation have turned to the pastime over the last decade, and even more so during the lockdown period.

The UK Government has also been encouraging such activity, publishing the 'Gear Change - A bold vision for cycling and walking' report, which aims to boost local cycling initiatives.

Cycleways have said "Gear change is everything we could have asked for and we need to use it to drive Warwickshire CC to improve cycling infrastructure within our district."

If you visit the Cycleways website you will see that is has been given a complete makeover with a new look and lots more content.

"It is now possible to join Cycleways online and we urge you to encourage neighbours, friends and relatives living in the district to do so."

Household membership is only £10, which goes towards:

- Your membership increases the influence of Cycleways' voice, so you are helping by just being a member.

- Supporters receive the Cycleways newsletters with all the latest information on cycling in the area.

- John Atkins Cycles, Mike Vaughan Cycles and Giant Leamington (was The Bike Yard) kindly offer a discount (usually 10% on non-sale items) for members showing a current membership card.

- Cycleways is a member of Cycling UK (formerly CTC), so you can purchase Affiliate Membership to Cycling UK for just £26 per year, giving you third-party insurance.

Cycleways are also establishing a strong social media presence. With 700 twitter followers for their account @Ken2Leam.

They also have a dedicated Facebook Group where you can keep up to date with the campaign and post anything cycling related their.

Cycleways is now offering members the chance to join a Slack group, which will provide a much better means of communication for members.

"We want cycling as a means of transport for everyone; old and young, the serious club rider through to the weekend leisure rider; Cycleways is open to all irrespective of age, race, gender or sexuality and aims to speak for all!

"Cycleways represents cyclists to the Council at County, District and Town level, ensuring that your voice is heard. We work to develop the cycle network and monitor danger-zones around the area and suggest safer junctions.

"Cycleways wants a cycle friendly Kenilworth, Leamington Spa and Warwick which will benefit businesses, the environment and public health. Warwick District should be a fantastic place to cycle, it is one of the flattest parts of England. Unfortunately, provision for cyclists is severely lacking.
