It will be all things 70's at a Kenilworth jewellers this Friday and Saturday as it celebrates its 45th anniversary.

Edmonds Jewellers on Warwick Road is set to host a weekend-long event to mark the major milestone, with special discounts and rollback prices announced.

The business was due to celebrate the anniversary last year, but delayed the occasion as it embarked on the huge project of converting the former HSBC bank into its fantastic new store, and moved across from Cheylesmore, which was a "huge step" for Edmonds which had been on the same site since 1979.

"The business was launched in 1979 in Cheylesmore and then we as a family took it over in 1986," owner Carl Edmonds told Nub News.

"Originally it was called Alan's Gift Centre and after a few years we renamed it to Edmonds.

"Over the years we have reinvented the business, to suit the needs of our customers, and we have evolved to the modern business you see today."

Over the weekend of July 18 and 19, Edmonds will be rolling back the years and the prices as it offers 20 per cent off almost everything in store.

Rollback prices will also include £1 watch batteries and fittings, 75 per cent off new watch straps, and free jewellery cleaning.

Goodie bags will be waiting for the first 45 customers on each day.

"We are really excited to mark the anniversary with a fabulous celebration," Carl said.

"We have customers who have shopped with us for years in Coventry, and have followed us now we are in Kenilworth, which is incredible.

"This weekend will be a celebration of our success and of their support over the years."

The anniversary celebration will also coincide with the launch of the new Edmonds website, as the online side of the business continues to expand.

First set up in 2007, the website has grown over the years, and Edmonds now has customers nationwide as well as in the Midlands and Warwickshire.

That development of the business is something Carl says has been crucial to its longevity.

"We've continuously reinvented ourselves - probably about seven times over the past 45 years," he added.

"We have always wanted to make ourselves current, to make ourselves relevant.

"That's what we have done here in Kenilworth, to give shoppers an experience.

"People don't want to walk into an old fashioned shop, they want to walk into somewhere exciting and contemporary."

As well as special offers, the weekend will see the team dress up in 70's attire, while decade-appropriate music will also be played over the two days.

Looking back at the near half-century of business, Carl told Nub News of his pride in what has been achieved.

"It is immense.

"Working for yourself is one of the hardest things that you can do, but it's one of the most rewarding things that you can do.

"You can work and work and work and keep going and actually you're earning no money at all.

"And what you're doing is you're creating that foundation, that base for your business to flourish.

"Then when it all comes together, it's an incredible feeling."

As well as a huge range of jewellery, Edmonds stocks a large range of bags, accessories and sneakers and is the only dedicated Pandora specialist in town, not forgetting its popular ear piercing and permanent jewellery services.
