A sublime opening combo of Sandeep Kumar and Stu Cope helped Kenilworth to a six-wicket win over Walmley to move to second in the Warwickshire county Cricket League division two.

Walmley won the toss and elected to bat first on a sun baked day at Warwick Road.

Tidy opening spells from Paul Lawrence (2-28) and Steve Rhodes (1-29) restricted the visitors to 30 for two early on.

Despite some small partnerships and a top score from Shackleford (67), Kenilworth continued taking wickets at regular intervals, to eventually bowl out Walmley for 177 in favourable batting conditions.

Connor Shingler's spell of 4-22 from 10 was the pick for the town, with Cope's 3-27 rounding out a fine bowling display.

Kenilworth's opening pair then made a significant dent in the target, reaching 106 inside 20 overs before Cope was dismissed for an organised 57 from 66 balls.

Kumar fell two short of a deserved second 50 of the season, before Quinn Bungard (36*) and Adam Huxford (24, 17 balls) scored a run a ball 33 for the third wicket partnership as Kenilworth finished 178/4 with 15 overs to spare.

And it was the first win of a clean sweep for Kenilworth Cricket Club with the second XI beating Nether Whitacre and the thirds taking the points against The Lenches.
