A brilliant unbeaten hundred from Harry Johnson combined with some explosive hitting from Tom Mordey to see Kenilworth Wardens to a thrilling come-from-behind win over Wolverhampton.

At 132 for six the home side's pursuit of a rain-adjusted 45-over target of 251 looked a forlorn hope until the seventh wicket pair blasted 98 quickfire runs.

This left Wardens requiring seven from the final over and when Tommy Rex smashed the second ball for six the Glasshouse Park club had claimed the 20 points that keep their Birmingham Premier League Division Two promotion hopes alive.

Johnson arrived at the crease following the early losses of Nick Seagar and Ali Zaryab and proceeded to build a patient 46-run partnership with Keith Bell who made 27.

But the loss of three further wickets dented the home side's prospects to such an extent that when Mordey joined the by now well-set Johnson the pair were forced to immediately press the accelerator.

The tall seamer did this to such good effect that his 41 came from only 31 balls, while his partner found the boundary seven times and cleared it on a further three in an outstanding unbeaten 116 which spanned only 94 balls.

Wolverhampton grabbed a late lifeline when Mordey fell with 21 runs still required only for Rex's calm head to dash their hopes.

Joe Stanley (2-34) was the pick of the visitors' attack while Charlie Home also conceded only 33 from his nine-over allocation.

The mid-table visitors earlier started briskly thanks to opener Ramanjot Jaswal (52) and Ali Waqas who made 43 from only 40 balls as they progressed to 131 before losing their third wicket.

Resuming after a rain break, the second part of their innings was dominated by Home's unbeaten 70 which contained four sixes and came from only 82 balls.

Paceman Jabez Weale claimed four wickets for Wardens but it was Zaryab (1-37) and Neylan Chauhan - who was making a welcome return from a lengthy injury break - that checked the visitors' progress with controlled spells of off-spin as the visitors closed on 229 for seven.
