Stoneleigh mass vaccination centre closes after nearly 160,000 doses

By James Smith 1st Nov 2021

The mass vaccination centre at NAEC Stoneleigh has closed as the local NHS begins to focus on areas with low take up rates.

Nearly 160,000 vaccinations have been given at Stoneleigh since it opened in January.

And with nearly 1.3 million people in Coventry and Warwickshire now vaccinated, the mass site is able to close, with vaccines still available through local clinics.

More pop ups will now be run to target areas of the county where take up rates are lower.

Associate director of operations for the Covid-19 vaccine programme at CWPT Rob Spencer has thanked NHS staff and volunteers for their "phenomenal" work and dedication at the Stoneleigh site.

"Since the doors first opened in mid-January over 158,000 Covid-19 vaccinations have taken place," he said.

"Due to the phenomenal efforts from so many people throughout the course of the last nine months, it has not only provided people from our local area with increased protection against this virus, enabling them to get back to some sense of normality, but will have saved countless lives.

"To all members of staff and volunteers who have either worked one shift or 100 shifts, thank you.

"If you've worked clinically, administratively, or voluntarily; on site or in the backgrounds, you've made a difference and saved lives."
