The memory of three Kenilworth locals who were sadly taken too young has been honoured with the naming of three streets on a new housing estate in the town.

Street names have now been confirmed for the Southcrest Rise development on Glasshouse Lane, where developer Miller Homes is currently building 99 homes.

The first homeowners moved into their new properties at the estate earlier this year, and as work on the development continues, the road signs have started to be put in place.

One of the new roads is named after Angela Cannadine, a technology teacher at Kenilworth School who passed away from breast cancer in 2020.

Milan Patel, who died aged 14 from a rare bone cancer in 2015, has also been remembered with a street named after him.

While the third road has been dedicated to the memory of Sally Woodhouse who passed away in 2006 from meningitis, aged 16.

All three names bear particular significance, not just because of their importance to people in the town, but also because they were valued members of Kenilworth School which now neighbours the site.

Following the announcement of the road names, Darren Humphreys, managing director of Miller Homes West Midlands, said: "We strongly believe in retaining local history within our new developments, to ensure the legacy of the area is kept at the forefront of our minds during a period when we are delivering a regeneration of a location.

"At our Southcrest Rise development in Kenilworth, built next door to the brand-new Kenilworth School campus, we are paying tribute to alumni of the school through our street addresses, which provides a permanent reminder of the history of the site of our new homes.

"The family names of Cannadine, Patel and Woodhouse will stand proudly at our development for the rest of time.

"Of course, the school's legacy continues to build as the new Kenilworth campus opened in September this year.

"We enjoy being neighbours to the hugely impressive school facility and the juxtaposition of the new campus standing side-by-side with the street names at Southcrest Rise, bringing together the school's history and its future, separated by a matter of yards."

The suggestions were put forward by Kenilworth Town Council last year, alongside a number of ideas for the new housing estates in the town.

Alongside 'heroes of Kenilworth', councillors also put forward notable figures from the town's past, lost street names and even types of tomato as possible themes for the new highways.

The 'Oxford' style show home at Southcrest Rise was opened in May - with the kitchen used for the recent 'Great Kenilworth Bake Off' event.

Complete with a double garage, two en-suite bedrooms and an impressive kitchen with a central island, the show home shows off the high quality of homes on offer at the new development.

And as part of the development, Miller Homes will be contributing more than £2 million to the local area.

The money will be spent on education, transport and sporting facilities, with more than £980,000 to go towards early years, primary and secondary education and £176,721 set to go towards creating a new community centre.
