Kenilworth planning roundup: Trees to be cut, Wetherspoon and school's expansion

Here are the biggest local planning stories from the past week.
Trees to be cut back?
Trees will need to be cut back to allow for a new pedestrian crossing to Kenilworth Castle to be built.
Kenilworth Town Council (KTC) has been working on a major project to improve pedestrian safety around Castle Road and is pressing ahead with plans to install a new puffin crossing.
The preferred location is to the south of the ford.
KTC is working with English Heritage - which operates the castle - to create the link, with the charity expected to sort the paths from the crossing to the castle.
Wetherspoon moves forward
The opening of Kenilworth's new Wetherspoon is just weeks away and locals have been given a first glimpse of the new pub.
Contractors removed the scaffolding from the front of the building at The Square this week, showing the progress on the new facade.
Works began on site in February converting the former Poundland shop into the boozer named the 'Dictum of Kenilworth'.
Primary school's expansion
The expansion of a Kenilworth primary school looks set to be delayed by another two years as another planning application is needed.
Warwickshire County Council has already signed off on a £6 million budget to create 200 extra places at St John's Primary School and Nursery, with the project due to be finished last year.
This had already been pushed back to September 2025 but more delays have hit the project.
The council's website now says the project is due for completion in July 2027.
