Bomb disposal experts have left Kenilworth Castle after being called to the scene earlier this evening (June 18).

Locals were told to stay away from the area, and nearby roads were shut after an "object" was reported.

Police alerted residents to the incident at around 6pm.

After confirming the object was safe, police left the scene.

A spokesperson for Kenilworth Castle said: "Earlier today, a member of the team at Kenilworth Castle discovered an unidentified object in an area outside the castle walls.

"The castle team alerted the police who came to the site and set up a cordon.

"The police subsequently confirmed that the object was not suspicious, removed the cordon, and left the site."

Neither the police nor English Heritage have confirmed what the object was.
