Kenilworth planning roundup: Curry house to flats, pub's renovations and huge advert
Here are the biggest Kenilworth planning stories from the past week.
A developer has applied to build an extra studio flat at a student accommodation development on Warwick Road.
JR Gill Investments Ltd was given permission to turn the former Zaika Lounge restaurant into flats in 2018.
But now - following previous failed attempts to include more rooms - the company has submitted an application to turn the loft into another apartment.
-------------
Pub's Renovations
Plans to renovate a Kenilworth pub's 'neglected' front terrace have been given the go-ahead by Warwick District Council.
Proposals to build a new shelter and redecorate outside the Green Man pub were revealed last month.
The scheme, which was given planning permission this week, will see a single-storey extension built by the main entrance of the Warwick Road venue.
-------------
Hydrogen Hub
Plans to construct a hydrogen hub on land at Greys Mallory near the M40 took a step closer this week after councillors agreed to look for a commercial partner to help develop the scheme.
The site, within the New House Farm development, is seen as the preferred option due to its proximity to the strategic road network – between junctions 13 and 14 of the motorway – and access to the grid.
A depot on Warwick's Stratford Road and Harbury Lane playing fields are also being considered.
-------------
Huge Electric Advert
Plans to build a huge digital advertising hoarding opposite a Kenilworth pub have been revealed.
Birmingham-based firm Replyshort Ltd has applied to build a six metre by three metre electric screen on the wall of Kenilworth Picture Framing on Warwick Road opposite the Bear and Ragged Staff.
The planning application, submitted to Warwick District Council, said the advert would change every 10 seconds.
-------------
Hotel to Accommodation
More student accommodation could also be provided in Kenilworth if plans to turn The Peacock Hotel into a block of flats are approved.
Planning permission for the scheme was granted in 2018 but construction was delayed due to the pandemic.
A fresh application submitted to WDC says that the University of Warwick is interested in running the site.
