Plans to build huge digital advertising board opposite Kenilworth pub revealed
Plans to build a huge digital advertising hoarding opposite a Kenilworth pub have been revealed.
Birmingham-based firm Replyshort Ltd has applied to build a 4.7 metre by 2.4 metre electric screen on the wall of Kenilworth Picture Framing on Warwick Road opposite the Bear and Ragged Staff.
The planning application, submitted to Warwick District Council, said the advert would change every 10 seconds.
"The proposed display would sit centrally on the gable wall and be set in off the main Warwick Road, facing the rear of the Bear and Ragged Staff public house and the entrance to Sainsbury's supermarket," it said.
"This proposed digital panel is for a static display, showing no animation, and the display format would change every 10 seconds."
But Kenilworth Town Council's planning committee has already raised concerns about the scheme, saying it would have a negative impact on local houses and the pub.
Following a planning meeting last Thursday, KTC objected to the application.
"The siting, size and nature of this display was considered detrimental to the amenity of neighbouring property, specifically including the Bear and Ragged Staff Public House, which is a listed building," the council's report said.
"In addition, the display was considered to compromise public safety at an adjacent busy road junction and pedestrian crossing.
"Members further commented that should approval be given, then a condition should restrict the type of advertisement that may be displayed to preclude the advertisement of products deemed harmful to the environment."
